Mom Pimps Her 7-Year-Old Daughter

Stories like this in the media are more frequent, because human depravity fascinates us. Think daytime talk shows like Maury Povich, Dr. Phil et al.

The actual events themselves probably happen on average as much as they ever have.

I think of my daughter and how she is such a lively, happy little girl and how I would hurt anyone who would try to rob her of that innocence; the poor girl in the story was robbed of that innocence by the one person she is supposed to trust: her mother. This isn't a nice thing to say, but any horrors that woman undergoes in prison is not enough to pay for the damage she did to her children.

That's the toughest part. The kids who have no one to protect them, when it's their parents doing the harm.

The mom does deserve what she gets in prison! I am not for revenge justice usually, as I believe in the process of the law. However, when it comes to kids, there is no excusing and no reason you should be let off. She basically destroyed this girls entire life. She will be scarred by this, and will need lots of therapy to even begin to have a normal life. She was the one supposed to be protecting her.

@Raskolnikov- very good point. I guess the public is grossly fascinated with human depravity. That's really sad though.

My dad was once on the jury for a rape trial. A man had threw some sort of party for his daughter, and lots of family members showed up. He got very drunk, and raped his 17yo niece/daughter's good friend. She was drunk as well, and woke up somewhere in the middle of the act, but pretended like she was still out of it because she was paralyzed by the sheer weight of the moment.

So, a man goes to prison and will be branded a sex-offender when he gets out, a girl is raped, and a family and friendships are shattered. My dad and I discussed it afterwards, and needless to say he did not regret voting 'guilty', but the whole thing just depressed him. We said, 'where is the winner in all of this'? Sometimes there is none.

The winners are those who might have otherwise been victims of these people. Some things cannot be undone, so we satisfy ourselves by making repeat offenses less likely.

That's the best I can come up with for a winner.

Agreed. Mandatory IQ tests to have more than 2 children and mandatory parenting classes before every child is born.

I don't think it's a matter of intelligence. I know some excellent parents whose IQ score would not impress, and some brilliant people who are so sadistic and ego-maniacal I shudder to think what they would do to a child.

It's emotional capability that's often an issue. An ability to empathize, the ability for self-sacrifice. The skills needed to raise a child go much further than a single characteristic can measure.

Very true. (I just saw the movie Idiocracy the other day and as dumb as it was, its frightening in a way). The test should be a comprehensive test that measures IQ and a variety of emotional and health factors.

Regardless of issuing a test, parenting classes should be mandatory for every child born. It may not help in this case, but it will at least instill a modicum of parenting common sense in those that don't have it.

Not to piss all over Zaki's bipartisan hugfest, but this is totally on the "I'm OK, You're OK" culture of the sainted Lennon of "Imagine" fame, who also penned "whatever gets you through the night". Yes, conservatives will transgress unto every kind of hypocrisy, but at least they acknowledge societal standards and find their shame accordingly. But for true, institutionally enabled, depravity, you've got to go Liberal. Want spectrum? Well, get it. Want to be free? Just remember to feel free to take responsibility for what you author, for our sake if not for your own. In advance: no apologies.

You just can't let an opportunity go by to point out that, no, we cannot agree, you are worse than me and I am all the better person for admitting it. You have to bring @!$%# up just to attack it. I find it tiresome and cowardly.

Just for once, just for the hell of it, why not say "Yes, Zaki, I think we can all agree this is wrong" instead of picking fights, flame-baiting, and pulling @!$%# out of your ass to create discord. Better yet, there are all kinds of political threads on the Vine for you to spew away so I can ignore you properly.

I think that we should take any opportunity to work with others on the other side of the political spectrum.

There's a lot that I don't agree with conservatives, just like there is a lot that they don't agree with me. For example, we can both root for the cure for cancer and volunteer/attend events such as "A Walk For Life".
