A Michigan woman's five children are in protective custody after she was charged with offering to let an undercover investigator have sex with her 7-year-old daughter.
The 33-year-old woman was arrested Friday after bringing the girl to a hotel room in Romulus, near the Detroit airport. The Wayne County Sheriff's Department said the woman arrived at the hotel with adult sex toys in a duffel bag and different dresses for the girl to wear.
Police said the woman was prepared to offer her daughter "for pornographic photos and anything else that was available if the price was right."
The woman's name is not being released so the child won't be identified. Investigators were trying to determine if her other children are victims of illegal sexual activity as well.
Some people just don't deserve to have children.
Well put!
No, you have it wrong. Some people don't deserve to live.
This is just terrible. I don't know if I have missed this in the past, but it seems to me that these stories are becoming more frequent. That is a horrible thought! These poor kids!
Stories like this in the media are more frequent, because human depravity fascinates us. Think daytime talk shows like Maury Povich, Dr. Phil et al.
The actual events themselves probably happen on average as much as they ever have.
I think of my daughter and how she is such a lively, happy little girl and how I would hurt anyone who would try to rob her of that innocence; the poor girl in the story was robbed of that innocence by the one person she is supposed to trust: her mother. This isn't a nice thing to say, but any horrors that woman undergoes in prison is not enough to pay for the damage she did to her children.
That's the toughest part. The kids who have no one to protect them, when it's their parents doing the harm.
The mom does deserve what she gets in prison! I am not for revenge justice usually, as I believe in the process of the law. However, when it comes to kids, there is no excusing and no reason you should be let off. She basically destroyed this girls entire life. She will be scarred by this, and will need lots of therapy to even begin to have a normal life. She was the one supposed to be protecting her.
@Raskolnikov- very good point. I guess the public is grossly fascinated with human depravity. That's really sad though.
Good lord... it amazes me how human kind can be capable of such selfless good and such depraved evil.
And you know... where will be the 'winner' in all of this? Even if the mother goes to jail for a few decades, even if her kids are never hurt again... there is just no winner in this situation, only losers of varying degrees.
You are absolutely right... no winners. We can certainly hope the child grows up to be one of those people who uses a negative situation as fuel for something positive.
Just in case you weren't depressed enough...
My dad was once on the jury for a rape trial. A man had threw some sort of party for his daughter, and lots of family members showed up. He got very drunk, and raped his 17yo niece/daughter's good friend. She was drunk as well, and woke up somewhere in the middle of the act, but pretended like she was still out of it because she was paralyzed by the sheer weight of the moment.
So, a man goes to prison and will be branded a sex-offender when he gets out, a girl is raped, and a family and friendships are shattered. My dad and I discussed it afterwards, and needless to say he did not regret voting 'guilty', but the whole thing just depressed him. We said, 'where is the winner in all of this'? Sometimes there is none.
The winners are those who might have otherwise been victims of these people. Some things cannot be undone, so we satisfy ourselves by making repeat offenses less likely.
That's the best I can come up with for a winner.
I think that is as close as we get. Good one Eco.
begin the therapy now--it will take decades to deal with this crap. There is no punishment that can fit this crime, but I hope she can't have contact with her kids (or access to any others) ever again--in addition to jail time.
SAD !
more proof stupid people should not be allowed to breed.
Agreed. Mandatory IQ tests to have more than 2 children and mandatory parenting classes before every child is born.
I don't think it's a matter of intelligence. I know some excellent parents whose IQ score would not impress, and some brilliant people who are so sadistic and ego-maniacal I shudder to think what they would do to a child.
It's emotional capability that's often an issue. An ability to empathize, the ability for self-sacrifice. The skills needed to raise a child go much further than a single characteristic can measure.
Very true. (I just saw the movie Idiocracy the other day and as dumb as it was, its frightening in a way). The test should be a comprehensive test that measures IQ and a variety of emotional and health factors.
Regardless of issuing a test, parenting classes should be mandatory for every child born. It may not help in this case, but it will at least instill a modicum of parenting common sense in those that don't have it.
There really isn't a punishment fit for this woman.
This is a great article because godless liberals like moi and neocon conservatives like toi (I'm not referring to anybody specifically) can hold hands and say as a single voice:
This is some @!$%#ed up @!$%#. She must be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
Not to piss all over Zaki's bipartisan hugfest, but this is totally on the "I'm OK, You're OK" culture of the sainted Lennon of "Imagine" fame, who also penned "whatever gets you through the night". Yes, conservatives will transgress unto every kind of hypocrisy, but at least they acknowledge societal standards and find their shame accordingly. But for true, institutionally enabled, depravity, you've got to go Liberal. Want spectrum? Well, get it. Want to be free? Just remember to feel free to take responsibility for what you author, for our sake if not for your own. In advance: no apologies.
You just can't let an opportunity go by to point out that, no, we cannot agree, you are worse than me and I am all the better person for admitting it. You have to bring @!$%# up just to attack it. I find it tiresome and cowardly.
Just for once, just for the hell of it, why not say "Yes, Zaki, I think we can all agree this is wrong" instead of picking fights, flame-baiting, and pulling @!$%# out of your ass to create discord. Better yet, there are all kinds of political threads on the Vine for you to spew away so I can ignore you properly.
hey if there's a topic where I can agree with a conservative besides video-games, I'll take it.
I think that we should take any opportunity to work with others on the other side of the political spectrum.
There's a lot that I don't agree with conservatives, just like there is a lot that they don't agree with me. For example, we can both root for the cure for cancer and volunteer/attend events such as "A Walk For Life".
Yes, conservatives will transgress unto every kind of hypocrisy, but at least they acknowledge societal standards and find their shame accordingly. #9.1
Wow, haha. Well, I walked into this article as a peaceful warrior, so no need for me to criticize anything but the disturbing reality of a mother doing such atrocity to her own child for money.
Sorry, I'm a little touchy in Aries...
You're absolutely right, Zaki. It's always nice to see people who look for common ground and present their opinions in a civil manner.
Thanks for that!
That is terrifying to think about. Very sad.
What is worse, while this is horribly sad and deplorable in our culture, there are thousands or more children who experience this in other countries on a regular basis, because of the intense poverty of those countries. So multiply the outrage and sadness by that amount for all the children who are so used as chattel and as a means of income for their families.
I think you should be licensed before having children, this will cut down on many unsuitable parents. Why was this woman allowed to birth five children?
No, pseudonihilist. It's obvious that repubs are just as sick as dems; the difference is that repubs condemn others for what they are actively doing. They are guilty of hypocrisy, which is the BIGGEST sin in the bible, if you've bothered to read it, which most republicans haven't (even though they yell that everyone should)
How did this get into a political debate?? First, all people are guilty of hypocrisy, not just republicans. Any person that is unhappy with themselves will condemn others for the exact reason they don't like themselves. That is a psychological fact.
Second, don't hate the sinner, just the sin. It amazes me how Dems can be so "love the world/embrace our differences" and so voraciously critical and downright rude towards Repubs the next minute (wouldn't that be the definition of hypocrisy??). Both parties would do well to remember to love their neighbor as they love themselves and do unto other as you would have them do unto you. The world would be a MUCH better place and maybe horrors like this wouldn't occur.
Third, I personally would rather be labeled as an individual than a neocon or godless liberal. Just because we believe one way or another doesn't mean we should all be lumped in together in a group. Do you like to be thought of as a group of people or an individual??
Last, the biggest sin in the Bible is not acknowledging God or denying Him. All that matter is sinners can find redemption through Jesus. Maybe if this woman had a real relationship with God, she wouldn't have done these heinous things.
good point

the only time we, as christians, should be pointing the finger to straighten someone out should first, be in a mirror, a second, not as an act of presuming judgment, but to help a brother/sister in christ get back on the right track it they obviously appear to have strayed.
for non-believers, the law of Moses is still God's example of perfect unattainable obedience and proof we all are polluted with sin from birth and will die if not redeemed.
