Viacom's popular cable channel for children, eager to diversify its revenue stream, is about to sail into the cruise business with the introduction this week of its Nickelodeon Family Cruise with Royal Caribbean.
The network has rented the largest ship in the cruise industry, Royal Caribbean's Freedom of the Seas, for Aug. 10-17.
Beginning this week, it will sell tickets — figure at least $4,000 for a family of four — to take more than 4,000 passengers to Mexico, Grand Cayman, Jamaica and a private beach in Haiti.
Nick-arranged games, shows and characters, including Dora the Explorer and SpongeBob SquarePants, will supplement the ship's usual activities and entertainment such as mini-golf and ice skating....

Dora and Spongebob are extremely popular figures for children. I think parents will support the venture. Too bad, that's a bit more than I'd pay.
Sweet. One of my nephews, Gene, was a HUGE Blues Clues Fan. I took Gene and his sister down to the Viacom store when it existed in the Loop. He had a blast! I bought him some Blues Clues stuff and a Tommy Doll, the cartoon guy who was friends with Lil and Phil. What was the name of that show? I cannot remember. Tommy had a mean sister.
If I were rich, I would take my kids on that cruise, if I had kids, lol. Kids remember stuff like that and enjoy it SO much. I suppose it could be considered spoiling them, but you are only a child once. The grownups enjoy seeing the delight in the eyes of the children.
